You need a reason to get healthy, I got THE ONE for you. Is there anyone out there that has any doubt that we do not take care of our selves? For years the industry has been coming up with “hows” and “whats” and gadgets and labels and infomercials and books and…. well you know. Still the population is unhealthy and over weight. Basically we have not found the answer. Well… I have…

The answer lies in the nature of “Reason”. Human beings need reasons to do anything. And we believe that there is a cause and effect relationship in reasons why we do things. In the physical realm for instance, we know that a car’s wheels turn because the transmission is turning and the transmission is turning because the engine is engaged and the engine is engaged because the gas pedal is being pushed. So the causality in the physical realm is clear. But what pushes the gas pedal is a human being, then the question is what makes the human being push the gas pedal? That is Reason. So reasons do not exist out there in the physical world, they exist in the human being. Reasons exist in the mind and in conversation. Human beings make up reasons, and need reasons to accomplish their intentions.

There are “Pull Reasons” and “Push Reasons”. Nietzsche said “if there is a burning reason why, you will endure any how” that defines Push Reasons. If I put a gun to your head every morning better yet a gun to your loved one’s head every morning at 5 AM and said if you don’t get up and exercise right now, I will pull the trigger, you would get up and exercise, that is a Push Reason. Also some of us tend to get to push ourselves because we just had our first heart attack, for some that is not even good enough. Then there are Pull Reasons, these are reasons why you love to do something, cannot wait to do it, will get up early to do it. So how do we create Pull Reasons to get our selves to exercise? If we can answer this question we will forever impact our health.

Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? This was the tittle of a paper in the early seventies a meteorologist used to explain his observations, when he worked with a couple of equations, and saw the impact of playing with the digits after the decimal point of the numbers he used. He showed that little movements in the physical world can cause unimaginable results over time. Today this is also referred to as “ The Butterfly Effect.” When Rosa Parks said “No” to a demand, in that moment what happened in the physical world was very small, but what got created in the physical world today is tremendous. If you looked at your own life you can see that you have made some small moves in the past that changed the course of your life in some unimaginable, unintended ways.

Now I invite you to consider the following leap: If a small action in the physical world can create unpredictable events on the planet, can I create reasons for my actions that pull me to act on what I need to act on, and seemingly in this moment my action has no cause and effect relationship between the reason I am creating and the outcome I am intending? Let me give you an example: Rosa Parks did not say, “ I will say ‘No’ now, because If I did the future of the black race in the United States will forever change.” Go back to that moment; could she have made that her reason for saying “No”? Yes she could have. She could have created the reason “The black race will be free if I say No now.” So I can, being an intentional human being, create reasons to exercise. I can say “there will be peace on earth” if I exercised today. I can say “my wife’s cancer will disappear if I exercised today”, I can actually make up anything and be pulled by my created reason to exercise. The choice is to live with a miserable Push Reason or to create an intentional Pull Reason that has me move forward with my intentions. Human beings have such power. This article is a small change in the physical world but it has the potential to change the life of whoever reads it.

So today I will be exercising for peace on earth. I will hold that intention as the reason for exercising today. Tomorrow I will create another reason. I can create them by week, by month. I can create them with my family and have it be my families reasons to exercise. I can put it on the refrigirator. Any way I like, anything I like. Oooo… I can hear a reason coming up for all next week… I will exercise all week for my daughter to have a great life. What reasons will you make up for getting off your ass today?

You pray don’t you?

I thought I write a little more here. I know when you read what I have written above you might be thinking… “well you are kidding your self” or “it is far fetched” or something like that and dismiss the idea. Here is a thought…. You pray don’t you? Most people do. Why do you want to believe that if you pray, things will happen? Instead of prayer being the effort you put out to get what you want, you can start believing exercise is the path to what you want.. Praying for what you want is just as silly as exercising for what you want. If you were born on a planet where everyone jogged to get what they want instead of praying, this idea would not be so far fetched… Oh.. but I know, you know “The Truth.”
